Abstract:
A review is given of the various methods of paper deacidification. Washing techniques are described, and the use of ethanol to aid wetting is advocated. A suggested washing procedure is described. The advantages and disadvantages of various deacidifying chemicals are discussed, particularly those containing sodium ions, magnesium bicarbonate and calcium hydroxide.
