Résumé
Oftentimes the lighting scheme for museum storage areas provides much greater illumination than is necessary. Too-high light levels not only lead to excessive energy consumption, but also to accelerated deterioration, particularly of light-sensitive materials. A light system, designed for the Mathers Museum, that utilizes high-pressure sodium lamps is one approach for meeting both the visibility and art conservation requirements for a storage facility, i.e., low light levels with good visibility and low ultraviolet and infrared exposure.
